Budapest tram 1 is running again

The long-awaited renovation of one of the city’s most important means of transport, tram 1, is of concern to everyone living in Budapest. The first section of the project was completed recently, so from 5 May 2014 the tram will be running again from Árpád Bridge to Népliget.

During the renovation, the entire tram track, the overhead lines, some stops, the cable network and the transformer stations, which will also affect VÁV UNION more closely, will be renewed.

VÁV UNION Ltd. is working closely with Siemens to renovate the so-called Óbuda, Árpád, Reitter and Zugló transformers on this section of the line.

The works will affect almost all the equipment of the transformers, such as 10kV equipment, transformers, rectifiers, positive and negative DC distributors, auxiliary distributors, remote controls and the internal cable network. In the stations, equipment has been upgraded or replaced to varying degrees, in line with the Customer’s requirements. In accordance with the customer’s conditions, the stations’ operational reliability must be maintained throughout almost the entire work, thus ensuring the continued operation of the tram and trolleybus lines supplied from the transformers, which are not affected by the conversion.

In the first phase mentioned above, the Óbuda and Árpád transformers have been completed and are again fully operational.

However, work is not stopping as the Reitter converter is approaching its deadline of 23 May.
