Airport in Pápa

This year will see the inauguration of the SAC Hangar Complex, the largest investment of the programme so far at the Pápa Base Airport. The Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) programme is a joint alliance of 12 member countries, including Hungary, which provides strategic military airlift capabilities for its members.

Since its launch in 2008, the programme has been based at the Hungarian Defence Forces Base Airfield in Pápa. During this time, the 3 C17 aircraft participating in the programme have flown more than 10,000 hours, transported 30,000 tonnes of cargo and 30,000 passengers.

The new SAC Hangar Complex consists of an aircraft maintenance hangar, a maintenance facility and an office building. The complex is served by 2 50 Hz and 2 60 Hz MODAN-type 0.4kV switchgear with ARCON arc fault protection in a drawer layout, consisting of two switchgear rooms. On behalf of KÉSZ Kft., VÁV UNION Kft. prepared the production design of the equipment, developed the software for the automatic interconnection between the feeders and manufactured the switchboards.

The contract also included the installation of the equipment and participation in the commissioning. Operational tests and fine-tuning of the equipment are still ongoing.

The new equipment had to meet specific conditions, which were a challenge for us to meet. We put the best of our knowledge into the implementation of the equipment and are proud to have been part of such an international collaboration.
